This workshop is designed for expecting parents, parents, grandparents and other caregivers. It provides participants with the knowledge and skills to carry out emergency first aid for life threatening injuries and illnesses involving infants and young children.
This includes but is not limited to the following topics:
Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (infant and child) and includes the use of an Automated External Defibrillator for a child
Backyard pool drowning/dangers of shallow water blackout (SWB)
Choking
Control of Bleeding, Management of Shock
Febrile Seizures
Asthma First Aid
Allergic Reaction and Anaphylaxis Awareness
Burns
Poisoning
Diabetes
Bites & Stings
Content of Bringing Home Baby
Elements of this workshop can be tailored to suit your needs, for example, you may wish to replace ‘Diabetes’ with 'Fractures'
Communicating with the Emergency Services. Stress management techniques and available support following an emergency situation, including the psychological impact on children. Infant, child basic anatomy and physiology and the consequences for provision of first aid.
Should you wish for a half day session we recommend;
Minimum age for participants is 14 years. There are no prerequisites and no pre-course study required for this workshop.
A FREE CPR keyring resuscitation face mask. The use of quality, hygienic adult, junior & infant manikins, bandages, training props and defibrillators. The use of auto-injector trainers, the use of training reliever medication (bronchodilators) with small & large volume spacers & masks. Up to date first aid material, PowerPoint presentation, DVDs.

Please note this workshop is delivered as non-accredited and therefore does not provide a statement of attainment / certification. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommend Basic Life Support training every 12 months. This ensures currency of resuscitation skills and knowledge of equipment.

In the face to face portion of the training, you are taught how to provide first aid with confidence. There is ample time in this workshop to ask questions and to practice the necessary skills needed for providing emergency first aid and life support for infant and young children.
