HLTAID007 – Provide Advanced Resuscitation

Course description

This course deals with the provision of advanced first aid resuscitation techniques, life support, and management of casualty(s), until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers. 

This course is designed for first aiders to advance their skills to include automated external defibrillation, soft bag resuscitation and oxygen delivery.

Course duration

• Face to face, online eLearning prior to training (7 hour delivery)

Course content

• Assess the situation and recognise someone requiring Advanced Resuscitation

• One and two rescuer resuscitation techniques

• Oxygen safety precautions

• Selecting and preparing correct oxygen equipment

• Administer oxygen safely at correct flow rate 

• Administering oxygen with a face mask

• Selection of appropriate oropharyngeal airway

• Inserting an oropharyngeal airway

• Clearing the airway using a suction device

• Use of bag valve mask device with oxygen therapy

• Maintenance of resuscitation equipment  

• Two rescuer soft bag resuscitation

• Safe procedure and effective use of an automated external defibrillator

• Assessing vital signs and provide verbal and written reports

Prerequisites

Minimum age for participants is 14 years. It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor. 

Materials provided

A quality first aid manual and a FREE CPR keyring resuscitation face mask. A coloured certificate with a coloured hard plastic wallet card, replica of the certificate. An emailed copy of your certificate when competent and a web based verification system to authenticate your award. 

The use of quality hygienic; adult, junior & infant manikins, oxygen, suction, bag valve mask resuscitator and training defibrillators. Up to date first aid material, PowerPoint presentation, DVDs.
