HLTAID006 - Provide Advanced First Aid

Course description

This course builds on Provide First Aid, to include additional skills and use of a range of equipment. It is ideal for first aiders requiring a higher level of preparedness in order to adequately handle a workplace emergency. Provide Advanced First Aid deals with the provision of advanced first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers.

Flexible Learning:

• Self-study with online eLearning prior to face to face training

• Face to face, one day (8 hour delivery)

Course content

Builds on content of HLTAID003 Provide First Aid to include:

• Use of Automated External Defibrillation

• Bag Valve Mask ventilation

• Trauma management, conducting a basic triage for a multiple casualty incident, first aid team work

• Conducting a secondary survey, assessing vital signs

• Emergency childbirth

• Head, neck, spinal injuries using immobilisation principles

• Infection control principles and procedures

• Comply with WHS Legislation

• Emotionally disturbed casualties

• First aid records, post-incident debrief and evaluation

• Asthma and use of a Bronchodilator with a spacer device

• Management of anaphylactic shock reaction

  
  

Prerequisites

Minimum age for participants is 14 years. Completion of the online eLearning is required prior to the face to face session and evidence given to the trainer. It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR manikin placed on the floor. 

Materials provided

A quality first aid manual and a FREE CPR keyring resuscitation face mask. A coloured certificate with a coloured hard plastic wallet card, replica of the certificate. An emailed copy of your certificate when competent and a web based verification system to authenticate your award. For the flexible learning a self-paced online eVideo workbook is provided.  

The use of quality, hygienic; adult, junior & infant manikins, AED's, bag valve masks, bandages, thermometers, training props and training defibrillators. The use of auto-injector trainers, the use of training reliever medication (bronchodilators) with small & large volume spacers & masks. Up to date first aid material, PowerPoint presentation, DVDs.
