RESCUE BANDAGE TQ INFLATABLE TOURNIQUET http://trainingyoufirstaid.com.au/latest-news.php?d=65

RESCUE BANDAGE TQ INFLATABLE TOURNIQUET - is a unique life saving device, easy to use and highly effective – when time counts – Stop the Bleed.

Its compact design is perfect for 4×4, boating, mining, ATV, construction and outdoor recreation – every First Aid kit needs the Rescue Bandage!

Simply ‘slide and wrap’ the Rescue Bandage around the limb above the bleeding wound, the velcro restraint secures the Rescue Bandage in place – as you pump the inflation bulb the bladder system compresses the underlying blood vessels to stop the bleed.

Tourniquets save lives. Clinical data supports the use of tourniquets in a civilian setting.

I am proud to be associated with the Founder of Rescue Bandage TQ, my colleague Terry Urquhart ALS1 Certified Paramedic "In 26 years of Paramedicine I have never found an effective easy to use product that anybody can use in an emergency to stop blood loss, that’s why I invented the Rescue Bandage - Stop The Bleed"

2 LIVES SAVED IN JUST 2 WEEKS! http://trainingyoufirstaid.com.au/latest-news.php?d=64

2 lives saved in just 2 weeks - Lives are being saved more and more often by AEDs across Australia, becoming commonplace enough that we don't always get to hear the good news. However we have heard reports that two lives were saved already this year by our HeartSine AEDs in different states of Australia at a Fitness Centre and a Shopping Centre - two places you would not want to be without an AED.

What a great way to start 2017! To celebrate and pay-it-forward, our HeartSine "Forward Hearts" program will donate an AED for each of the individuals who survived Sudden Cardiac Arrest to the charity or organisation of their choice.

We hope the year sees more being installed in similar venues throughout Australia, and that they continue to save lives whether we hear about them or not.

Brayden CPR Manikin (Blood Circulation Display) http://trainingyoufirstaid.com.au/latest-news.php?d=61

BRAYDEN CPR MANIKIN (BLOOD CIRCULATION DISPLAY) – Training You First Aid are now supplying the first CPR Manikin ever to display visual flow of blood from the heart to the brain during CPR.

In a world first for CPR Manikins, Brayden has won the iF design award for the Medicine & Health category in 2016. The quality of design and effective function are widely recognised in this award.

It is widely acknowledged that with all first aid training, the most effective learning method is by using animated visual tools to assist in memory retention. Brayden assists in this way, showing the effective of compression depth and speed and their correlation to effective blood flow to the brain.

This short video (01.22) gives an overview of the features and functionality of the Brayden CPR Manikin. Using both the red and white light versions of Brayden, it clearly shows how the 3 interrelated sets of LED light help people both teaching and learning CPR visualise the effects and function of CPR (the red illuminator version is available in Australia).

To improve the outcomes of your training courses please see: http://www.trainingyoufirstaid.com.au/products.php  Discounts available for multiple units. Price includes GST (shipping within Australia only).

KEEP THE BLOOD PUMPIN http://trainingyoufirstaid.com.au/latest-news.php?d=58

KEEP THE BLOOD PUMPIN - High-performance CPR has been described as a "pit crew" approach to sudden cardiac arrest. Like a professional racing team, each rescuer has a specialised role. High-performance CPR has been described as a choreographed dance where teamwork and communication are essential.

Anyone who has practiced on a CPR manikin for any length of time knows it is physically challenging. Most people cannot perform proper chest compressions for more than two minutes. Therefore it’s important to switch roles at short intervals.

Performing flawless CPR guidelines means trading places with other team members every few minutes. It is important that your team know how to quickly switch roles. Rotating chest compressors is essential to keeping the blood flowing. You need to practice timing and coordination to avoid interruptions in chest compressions.

To deliver high-quality CPR you must push hard and fast on the chest to circulate oxygenated blood throughout the body. This gives the brain and vital organs enough oxygen until the heart can be re-started with a defibrillator.

Communities around the world where high-performance CPR is practiced are seeing significant increases in their survival rates.
Although the pit crew concept of resuscitation was developed by professional responders, lay rescuers can apply the principles of high performance CPR in their training and practice.

OVER 4,000 PEOPLE TRAINED IN HIGH QUALITY CPR IN 1 DAY - What an incredibly amazing and rewarding day Take Heart Australia Day 2015 was!

Tony and I enjoyed being part of a team of volunteer Trainers at Allianz Stadium Sydney (overseen by one bossy puppet – Resus Andy). The team were able to train over 4,000 people in high-quality CPR. Proud to call everyone who took part Take Heart Heroes.

No Guinness World Record this year, but we'll be back to have another crack at it for Take Heart Australia Day 2016.

137 STAFF FROM ONE WORKFORCE TRAINED OVER 2 DAYS IN CPR & USING AN AED – congratulations to my client Ace Gutters, Mortdale, NSW for having the initiative of introducing their entire workforce to confidently provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and using an Automated External Defibrillator over a series of workshops spanning 2 days. The workshops ran for 1hr 15min and covered all age groups with practical scenarios delivered onsite by Training You First Aid.

No wonder they are celebrating over 60 years in business! A proactive company who certainly care about their staff’s well-being rather than responding to it after it has happened.

FAILING TO PREPARE IS PREPARING TO FAIL - with 2016 approaching approximately 30,000 Australians will die of Cardiac Arrest, and Doctors say that number would be greatly reduced if more people knew what they were doing.

The life you save with CPR is most likely to be someone you love – learn CPR & AED.

SAVED IN A HEART BEAT http://trainingyoufirstaid.com.au/latest-news.php?d=46 SAVED IN A HEART BEAT - We really are so vulnerable, so easily broken. My client Elizabeth Lucas never thought after attending my CPR courses over the years and deciding to invest in my Adopt-A-Defib™ initiative that she would need to use it on her husband John.

In March this year John collapsed at home unconscious and not breathing. It appeared John had suffered a mammalian meat (red meat) anaphylactic reaction resulting in sudden cardiac arrest (John doesn’t suffer with allergies).

The Adopt-A-Defib™ package features the HeartSine® Sam 500P with CPR Advisor which significantly improves CPR efficacy by giving the appropriate, dynamic feedback to the rescuer advising them on good compressions or to push harder, offering many a better chance of survival in the case of sudden cardiac arrest.

CPR Advisor kept Elizabeth calm and focused in a highly stressful situation by continually prompting her to "push harder" buying John time until the Paramedics arrived 10 minutes after his collapse.  Elizabeth couldn’t have imagined how hard she needed to push to maintain the optimum depth which equates to more than 5cm in adults for effective compressions as defined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC). She broke many of John’s ribs in saving his life - he was sore but very thankful!

The Paramedics, The Resuscitation Team at the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney and John’s Cardiologist all agree that Elizabeth’s high quality compressions guided by the Defib’s CPR Advisor certainly saved his life.

John & Elizabeth Lucas joined by staff from Northern Suburbs Rugby Club, Take Heart Australia and Adopt-A-Defib

We were delighted to donate an Adopt-A-Defib™ package to Northern Suburbs RFC the Survivors* choice. Our pay-it-forward initiative, people giving back to their local community.

Elizabeth, John & I attended the donation event with the Take Heart Australia team and I wish to thank them for their support and work making it the norm – rather than the exception – to survive cardiac arrest in Australia.

Adopt-A-Defib™ is committed to saving lives and making public access AEDs more readily available. Please support this non-profit initiative on www.facebook.com/adoptadefib

BREAKING RIBS http://trainingyoufirstaid.com.au/latest-news.php?d=45 BREAKING RIBS – A common fear people have about performing bystander CPR is that they might break some ribs. Although this can happen we want people to see the big picture. Broken ribs are not a big deal as long as you save someone’s life - in hospital we’ve never seen a patient complain about broken ribs if they survived from a cardiac arrest.

"Medical Care on Board Ship" course for Professional Development http://trainingyoufirstaid.com.au/latest-news.php?d=40

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – finding hands-on, practical based, advanced level, short courses for professional development can be challenging. The training in “Medical Care on Board Ship” at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney has proven to be very successful and not just for Seafarers. This course is based on the training of ambulance paramedics on shore that combines medical knowledge, practical skills and simulation training.

Participants complete a pre-course assignment by distance learning, with the face to face component being approximately 75 hours full time over two weeks. Much of the training consists of simulator exercises, at the Don Harrison Simulation Centre, St. Vincent’s Hospital, where participants are drilled in medical first aid emergency procedures for those that are hours away from help or days! In addition to the 75 hours participants are also placed on a 12 hour (day) shift with the NSW Ambulance Paramedics Service.

Therefore the focus is on critical cases. Learn topics such as Suturing techniques / Cannulation / Catheterisation / Administrating schedule drugs including schedule 8 / IV, IM, SC injection techniques / Care of dying or dead on board ship / Aspects of nursing – taking BP, BSL etc. / Role of Ships Medical Officer / ALS / Infection control and Aseptic techniques, just to name a few of the topics. The Simulation Centre at St Vincent’s Hospital is state of the art (see image).

Enjoy presentations by Industry leaders including St Vincent’s Hospital Trauma Director & Vascular Surgeon, Dr Tony Grabs.

The “Medical Care on Board Ship” qualification awarded is valid for 5 years and is approved by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). The RTO is Maritime Studies of OTEN (Open Training and Education Network), part of TAFE NSW. The course is open to anyone requiring an AMSA approved Medical Care on Board Ship Certificate or persons interested in acquiring the knowledge and skills to manage a medical emergency in a remote location. The only prerequisite requirement is a current First Aid certificate as the course offers full training.

The course is naturally tailored for people who wish to be the master of a foreign going vessel to provide competency based training in emergency first aid and medical response in the shipboard environment. However whether you are a seafarer or not, it is beneficial if you are looking for something unique for your Professional Development. As a current Instructor on the course I undertook the full course myself and can highly recommended the diversity and practical aspects of the training – a great refresher.

Delivered full time in Sydney, offered triannually with the next date set for; 20th July – 30th July 2015 or choose; 6th October – 16th October 2015. The cost is $2,500.

Attached is the 'Medical Care on Board Ship Course' featured in the International Maritime Health Association newsletter. If you would like to find out further information, contact me and I will forward you the course coordinators details.
